We built Bernie in 2016 in a five-day Fretwater Boat School class. She’s a Chaisson Swampscott dory tender, built from lines by the late great John Gardner. We lofted her in our 2015 class and the students wanted to reconvene the following year to build her. Her floor on garboard are epoxied plywood, because plank floors and deserts don’t mix.. The upper strakes are all copper-riveted cedar. We added a touch of rocker to make her more nimble in whitewater, and boy is she. A delight to row.
